JUNIOR SEA CADETS
Begin the voyage…
Imagine building your own raft, learning to steer a boat, or making new friends while camping under the stars. That’s what life is like for our Junior Sea Cadets.
At TS Fernie in Market Harborough, our Junior Sea Cadets programme welcomes young people aged 9 to 12 into a fun, supportive environment where adventure and personal development go hand in hand. Through engaging, hands-on activities, juniors build confidence, develop practical skills and form lasting friendships—all while laying the foundation for future success.
Junior Cadets meet every Tuesday from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM throughout the year, with a short break at Christmas. Due to high demand, we often operate a waiting list, so please get in touch early to arrange a visit and secure a place.

A Colourful Journey of Discovery
Our Junior Sea Cadets programme is divided into four vibrant sections—Red, Blue, Yellow and Green—each filled with themed activities that inspire learning through adventure. With the support of our dedicated Junior Training Officer, cadets complete fun, hands-on tasks to earn badges as they progress through each section.
Along the way, juniors can work towards up to four proficiency qualifications. These include practical sessions on the water, where they explore how boats float, steer and stay safe. In addition, cadets take part in exciting STEM-based projects that bring science and maths to life. There are also national challenges and awards to aim for, giving juniors even more reasons to be proud of what they achieve.
It’s all about learning by doing—building confidence and skills for life while having a brilliant time.
